Kids love learning about space and they always have so many questions. Most of which I don’t know the answer to! Space is not my area of expertise. I have to answer many of them with, “I’m not sure. You should research that!” Here are a few space learning ideas to get you started at home or in the classroom!
The Moon
The moon is a great place to start the learning! Why? It’s something concrete that littles can actually see and watch the different phases! Create a moon log with your class or family and watch the moon over the course of the month. Print out this moon log and just add black construction paper and a white crayon or colored pencil! If you are doing this in a classroom, a parent letter is also included! This interactive writing was created with first grade students.
Oreos are also fun and tasty for making the different phases of the moon.
Space Sentences
Sentence scrambles are one of my very favorite learning activities! They are amazing for learning concepts of print. This sentence scramble has simple sentences that match space learning. Just print the file, cut up the pieces and students can put the sentences together and rebuild the sentence.
I always recommend printing everything on this paper for longer use! A writing page is also included so littles can rewrite the sentences. You can download this sentence scramble for free by joining my email list! Just click HERE for instant access!
Astronauts
Astronauts are so fascinating! NASA has a great website for kids to learn about life in space. Kids are also amazed to learn that astronauts can’t live life like we do here on earth. Whatever you do, order a bag of astronaut ice cream for your littles to try! It’s the best!
Objects in the Sky
If you start looking into what is taught in Kindergarten and First Grade, you will see that students learn about patterns and a few objects in the sky including:
- clouds
- the moon
- stars
- the sun
I created this flip book while teaching first grade to help hit everything my littles needed to learn! You can check it out in my Teachers Pay Teacher’s store HERE.
