I love simple activities that keep little ones engaged and learning like this Thanksgiving Count and Write the Room printable activity! It’s the perfect activity for little ones practicing counting objects and writing numbers to 10!
I always feel a little bit sorry for Thanksgiving. It seems to get overshadowed by Christmas every year. I am definitely on Team Decorate for Christmas After Halloween, but I also enjoy some fun Thanksgiving activities too, especially with my students! I am popping in today to share this Thanksgiving Count and Write the Room. It’s a great (and super simple) activity for the classroom or at home! Read on to download it (for free!) and learn more!
Free Thanksgiving Count and Write the Room
This activity is best for older preschool and kindergarten students. However, as always, you know your students best so you can determine if it meets their needs. Here are a few of the skills this activity that this activity covers:
- Exposure and understanding of ten frames as a math tool
- One to one correspondence
- Number recognition
- Number writing
- Counting to 10
Supplies Needed:
- Recording Page (included in the free download below)
- Tens Frames (included in the free download below)
- Tape
- Pencil
- Clipboard (a class set of clipboards is seriously a gamechanger!)
Directions:
- Access and print the Thanksgiving Count and Write the Room activity for free. Each child participating in the activity will need a copy of the recording sheet.
- Cut out each of the ten frames and tape them around your classroom or home.
- Children will walk around the classroom or home and find each ten frame. They will find the matching picture on the recording sheet and write down the correct number. So for example, the ten frame that has leaves has 7 leaves. So they will find the leaf picture on the recording page and write 7 in the box. Clipboards are super helpful for this activity because little ones will be moving around the classroom or home.
- After students have completed the activity, count each ten frame and check the answers together using the answer key provided.

This math activity is also fun to pair with a fun Thanksgiving read-aloud! Here are a few of my favorites!
