I am Thankful Writing Alphabet
I have been doing this Thanksgiving writing activity since my first year of teaching! This activity is fun for children (and adults) of all ages! Challenge your little ones to think of something they are thankful for using each letter of the alphabet! This activity can also be completed as a class or a family if you have little ones who aren’t quite writing yet! If you are in the classroom, this would be a great addition to a writing center or morning activity!
Directions for I am Thankful Writing Alphabet
Here are a few easy ways to use the Thankful Alphabet in your classroom or home:
- Kick off a class discussion about gratitude. Ask your students what it means to be thankful and share a few examples together.
- Model the activity by filling out the first few letters together as a class or family.
- Let kids complete their lists independently or with partners.
- Share your thankfulness! Invite students to share one or two of their favorite words aloud. You can also create a bulletin board or “Thankful Wall” to display everyone’s work.

Why Gratitude Matters
Taking time to notice what we’re thankful for helps children (and adults!) build mindfulness, empathy, and joy. It shifts the focus from “what we want” to “what we already have.” During the busy holiday season, that’s a reminder we can all use.
The I am Thankful Alphabet is a simple way to spark meaningful conversations and create a lasting keepsake of what matters most right now.
