Sight word snowballs are one of my favorite winter activities for students! They are an easy literacy station and can be differentiated for the students in your classroom. This post will show you how to put together this activity for your students and give you a free printable page to use!
Sight Word Snowball Directions:
This activity is easy to put together for your students and only a few materials are needed! First, head to my TPT store and download Sight Word Snowballs. This is an exclusive free download, so be sure and follow me while you are there! Next, you will need to decide what type of snowballs to use.
You can put this activity together for your students using paper snowballs (included in the free download) or with white ping ping balls as snowballs.
If you use the paper snowballs, you will just write a sight word on each line on the snowball. If you use white ping pong balls, then just write each word on each ball using a sharpie and put them in a bucket. If you are struggling with what sight words to use, some ideas are included below or you can check out this post, Complete List of Kindergarten Sight Words.
What words should you use for this activity?
Different districts follow different lists when it comes to sight words, so definitely check out your district’s curriculum first! However, here are a few of the most common sight words for Kindergarten and First Grade students to get you started!

Next, each student will need a recording page which is also included in the free download! Students will find (or grab) a snowball, read the word, and write the word on their recording page. EASY!
If you have students who are ready for more of a challenge, they could also write a sentence with the words they find on the back of the recording page.

A similar activity could also be done with letters too if your students aren’t ready for reading and writing words yet. I have it available for uppercase and lowercase letters (plus tons of other winter-themed activities) inside of Snowman Centers for Preschool.
