This is my favorite time of the year and I absolutely love sharing the magic with my students and my own little ones. This post is full of easy Christmas activities for preschoolers to last you the entire month of December.
First, do you love creating class books with your students? Class books are one of my favorite tools for writing workshop time. They really help preschool and Kindergarten students get excited about learning to read and write. I’ve put together a set of my favorite printable class books totally free for you! These class books can be used throughout the school year and focus on skills like letter and number recognition, sight words, environmental print, and more! I know you’ll love writing and creating these books with your students!
Christmas Activities for Preschoolers
There are so many fun ways to celebrate the holidays with preschoolers! The options are truly endless. I choose each of these activities because they are simple and would be appropriate for a public school classroom where students may celebrate different holidays. It’s so important for all students to feel valued and seen, so please make sure any classroom holiday celebrations honor all of your students regardless of if they celebrate Christmas or not.
Christmas Class Books
Class books are one of my favorite ways to integrate subjects and develop concepts of print too. I have always made them with my students and especially love creating them around fun holiday themes! I put together an entire set of Christmas Class Books that are perfect for preschool or even kindergarten students. Here are a few of my favorites from the Christmas Class Book set.
This class book is perfect for creating after you read a story about The Gingerbread Man! Students will love thinking of somewhere that a gingerbread man could hide! If you are looking for more activities about The Gingerbread Man, be sure to check out this post: Easy and Fun Gingerbread Activities for Preschool Students.
I also love adding student pictures to class books. This really helps students to not only recognize their own name but the names of their classmates too! Make Reindeer Food
Have you ever made reindeer food? This is one of my favorite preschool Christmas activities! activity for preschoolers and they will love sharing the magic of the holidays with their families. To make reindeer food, we just mix some plain oats with glitter. You can make it extra cute by putting it in a clear bag and twist it shut with a brown pipe cleaner for antlers. Then glue on googly eyes and a red pom pom to make it extra festive!
Christmas Book Countdown
This is one of my very favorite holiday traditions both in the classroom and at home! Preschoolers will love a Christmas Book Countdown! All you do is choose holiday books to wrap up. I recommend wrapping up one book per child in your class! Each day, a different child can open the book, and then you will read it to the class! I enjoyed doing this at the end of the school day before dismissal or even after recess time to reset for the afternoon. There is just something so fun about opening a surprise book. You can read more about putting together this activity in this blog post, How to Put Together a Christmas Book Countdown.
Santa Sack Christmas Craft
Santa sacks are one of my favorite holiday crafts! They are so simple to make and they are a perfect way for preschoolers to use to wrap any gifts they create for their parents! Here is how to easily make them with preschoolers! Since paint (and paint drying) is involved, I recommend making them over a few days.
Santa Sack Materials
- White Lunch Sacks
- Red paint
- Skin colored paint
- Cotton Balls
- Googley Eyes
- Pink Pom Pom
- Glue
Santa Sack Directions
1. Divide a white paper bag into three sections. Paint the top section red and the middle section a skin color. Let dry completely.
2. Next, using glue add cotton balls for the beard and top of the hat.
3. Finally, on the face part of the bag add eyes and a nose! You can use this Santa sack for students to wrap their holiday gifts for families.
Christmas Visual Discrimination Cards
Visual discrimination is an important pre-reading skill and worthwhile for including in your stations this holiday season. These printable Gingerbread Visual Discrimination Cards are focused on uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers 0-20. Students will use a wooden clothespin to clip on the matching letter or number. This is a great activity to use for your math and literacy stations. You can even use it with your students throughout the year with this set of Preschool Visual Discrimination Cards.
