Are you looking for fun math games with dice for your kindergarten students? This post is full of dice math games your students will love!
Why are dice games good for kids?
Dice games are helpful for kids because they reinforce math skills and they help children practice subitizing.
What is subitizing?
Subitzing is when you quickly recognize a quantity without needing to take the time to count each object. For example, when students roll the dice and see three dots after a while they won’t need to count each dot to recognize the quantity shown is three.
Math Games with Dice
Here are a few fun math games that can be played with one die! These activities are perfect for preschoolers or Kindergarten students just learning to count.
At first, students may need to count the dots they see on the dice, but over time they will learn to subitize or instantly recognize the number they roll. Each of these games requires no preparation. Just print and add dice!
Four in a Row Dice Game
This game can be played with multiple players or independently depending on the needs of your students. Just print one game board for every person playing.
Next, each player will roll one die, count the number of dots on the dice, and cover that number on their game board. The first player to cover four numbers in a row wins!

Tips for Playing Math Games with Dice
- Contain the dice. Put your dice in a small plastic container. Students can shake the dice and read the numbers through the plastic container.
- Use foam dice to cut down on classroom noise. You can even find jumbo inflatable dice!
- As students get better at recognizing the number of dots on the dice ask them to “say the number” instead of “count.”
- Encourage families to play dice games together at home or even send home copies of these games for additional practice.
