Magnetic Letters are a must have in any classroom or home! They are a great resource for so many different activities. This is the set I recommend because it’s easy to get (Amazon anyone?), has uppercase and lowercase letters, they are color coordinated (vowels are red and consonants are blue) and it comes with a storage case! So order a set for your family and get started with one of these magnetic letter activities:
Alphabet Soup
This magnetic letter activity is so great for toddlers or young preschoolers just experiencing letters for the first time. Just put some magnetic letters in a pot and give them a spoon. They can scoop out the letters with the spoon (hello fine motor skills!) and sort and name the letters. Children learn through play, so adding letters to their play makes it fun for everyone.
Mystery Letter Bag
This magnetic letter activity is fun for children who have strong letter knowledge. Put a magnetic letter in a brown paper lunch sack. Your child will reach in with their eyes closed and try to guess what letter it is based on their sense of touch. This is great for helping littles notice the lines and curves of letters!
Book Labeling
This is one of my favorites magnetic letter activities! Grab any picture book and find a interesting page. Have your child use the magnetic letters to label the pictures. They can label with the beginning letter of each picture or even practice trying to spell. The book in the picture is If You Give a Pig a Party.
Family Names
Do you have family pictures on your refrigerator? Label the pictures with post it notes and have your child match up the letters to make each family member’s name. The post it note gives support to your child as they look for the needed letters. Be sure to write the name to match the letters. If they are using uppercase letters write: MOM instead of Mom or mom.
