Pumpkin Books
This is a great week to focus on expository texts! Students love learning about pumpkins and their life cycle. Here are a few of my favorite (and age-appropriate) pumpkin books for little learners:
The Pumpkin Life Cycle Anchor Chart
After you read a few books about pumpkins, I recommended creating an anchor chart about the life cycle with your students. Everything you need to create these anchor charts (including the pictures) are included inside of my product, The Pumpkin Life Cycle Book.
Life Cycle of a Pumpkin Printable Books
After reading about the pumpkin life cycle, your students will be ready to create their own book about the pumpkin life cycle. This Pumpkin Life Cycle Book is perfect for younger students! The book covers the pumpkin life cycle including seed, sprout, vine, flower, green pumpkin and orange pumpkin. Four differentiated book writing options are included to best meet the needs of your students! Printable book for students to color each picture and read the life cycle label.
If your students aren’t yet writing, a printable book is included for students to color each picture and read the life cycle label. If your students are just beginning to write, a printable book is included for students to color each picture and write the life cycle label. If your students are ready to write about each part of the pumpkin life cycle, a printable book is included with pictures and writing lines! My goal is always to create resources that can meet the needs of all the students in your classroom.
Planting a Pumpkin
Want to see a pumpkin’s life cycle in action? Plant pumpkin plants with your class! As a class, we carved a pumpkin together and pulled out all of the seeds. Each child planted their own pumpkin seed into a cup and we watched them grow. I couldn’t believe how fast they grew!
Pumpkin Books for Preschool
No pumpkin learning unit is complete without pumpkin books! Be sure to check out my list of the best pumpkin books for preschoolers! Fiction and non-fiction pumpkin books are included in the list. Preschool-age students will enjoy listening to each of these pumpkin books.

This pumpkin activity is interactive and lets your students practice comparing numbers to 10! After students find each pumpkin card, they will identify each number represented in the tens frame. Students will decide which number is the greater number and color the pumpkin on the response page to match the color of the pumpkin with the greatest number. This activity can be easily used as a whole group activity or placed in a math station. It is low prep, easy to use, and hits multiple skills at once!
