Worksheets in Preschool
The word, “worksheet” can bring up strong feelings for both teachers and parents. Let’s talk about worksheets.
Should preschoolers be doing worksheets?
Worksheets are not the best way for kids to learn, especially preschoolers. Young children are very concrete learners and need to have hands-on learning experiences to master concepts. However, there are many important skills that students need to learn that can be supported with worksheets such as holding a crayon to color, line tracing, cutting, and more!
I am a strong advocate that children learn best through play. I do not think printable worksheets ever replace play. But, I am a teacher and parent myself and I understand that ready-to-print worksheets and workbooks are very helpful especially if they are focused on skills preschoolers need.
These worksheets are not intended to exclusively teach your students. Instead, they are intended to serve as a support for the amazing hands-on instruction you are already providing to your students.
If you don’t want to use these worksheets as worksheets, that’s totally fine! Some additional ideas are provided for using them with your students. I also recommend adding manipulatives and supports too!
Number Recognition Worksheet
This number recognition worksheet is a great way to help your preschooler learn their numbers. The worksheet includes numbers 1-10, with a fun and colorful design that will keep your child engaged. They can practice tracing each number and then try writing it on their own. This worksheet is a great way to start building a strong foundation for math skills.
Inside this free download, Preschool Worksheets you will find a few worksheets for preschoolers that are focused on numbers.
Color by Number Worksheets for Preschool
I love Color By Number worksheets because they focus on visual discrimination. You can read more about this skill in this post, Why You Should Be Teaching Visual Discrimination. Students will simply look at the picture and color each section by number.
This worksheet focuses on numbers 1-7.
Number Order Preschool Worksheet Free
This worksheet is great for preschool students who can identify numbers and are ready to put them in sequential number order. It also gives students an opportunity to practice their cutting skills.
This worksheet can also be printed on colored paper and turned into a simple puzzle for students to print and use over and over. As always, I recommend laminating any material with a personal laminator that will be used repeatedly by multiple students.
If your students are ready for more exclusive learning about numbers 1 to 10, you will love my Number Coloring Worksheets and Activities.
Alphabet Letters Worksheet
Inside of this Preschool Worksheets download, you will find a few worksheets for preschoolers that are focused on uppercase letters and lowercase letters.
Missing Letter Worksheets
These worksheets are great for preschool students who can identify letters and are ready to put them in sequential order. They can also be printed on colored paper and turned into a simple puzzle for students to print and use over and over.
Please don’t rush this skill with your students and be sure to provide visual support for them anytime they are sequencing letters like an alphabet chart.
Preschool Tracing Worksheets
This line tracing worksheet is perfect for preschoolers who are just starting to learn how to write. The worksheet includes various lines such as straight lines, curved lines, and zigzag lines. Your child can practice tracing the lines by following the dotted lines with a pencil or marker. This worksheet is a great way to help your child develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Tracing worksheets are great for preschool students and help develop pre-writing skills. Line tracing and shape tracing are two free tracing worksheets that you will find inside this set of Free Preschool Printable Worksheets.
These worksheets can also be printed on colored paper and turned and laminated and used with dry-erase markers. I recommend using the skinny dry-erase markers too since they feel most like a pencil.
In fact, I actually recommend using skinny markers over pencils with beginning writers because they have less drag than a pencil and little ones don’t have to stress about the lead breaking!
Pattern Worksheets
This patterns worksheet is a great way to introduce your preschooler to the concept of patterns. The worksheet includes a series of shapes in different colors and sizes.
Children can practice identifying and completing the patterns by coloring in the missing shapes. This worksheet is not only fun, but it also helps your child develop their cognitive skills and prepares them for more advanced math concepts in the future.
