If you have a beginning reader, you are going to LOVE this activity! It’s a CVC Word Egg Hunt focused on short vowel sounds!
What are CVC words?
CVC simply stands for Consonant Vowel Consonant. These are the simple three letter words that little ones learn to read first.
They are words like: cat, dog, map, hot, etc. CVC words can be read when little ones can blend the three sounds in the word together. In a CVC word, each letter makes its sound. This activity is so much fun to practice reading CVC words and it’s super easy to prep!

Directions for the CVC Word Egg Hunt:
- Print the CVC Word Egg Hunt for free from my Teachers Pay Teachers Store. Be sure to follow me while you are there too!
- Cut out each picture and put each picture into a different colored plastic egg. Print a recording page for each child who will be completing the activity. Hide the eggs or put them in a bucket.
- Each child will open each egg and identify the picture inside of the egg. Each picture is of a CVC word.
- Then, children will find the corresponding word on the recording page and color the egg the color of the egg they found the picture in. So, if the child found the picture of a map in a pink egg; they would color the egg with the word map on the recording page pink.
