Yesterday I signed my contract with the school district and received
the keys to my classroom. So exciting! I had planned to work in my classroom
all day every day, but I didn’t realize how hot it would be! Y’all the high
today was 106 and there is no air conditioning in the school during the summer! AHHH! I am
planning to work early in the mornings or later at night. It’s just too
miserable during the day. I absolutely love my room! I am so lucky! I’m just
not sure where to begin.

My room!
SO many books! : ) Tonight my goal is to sort through them.
I just can’t wait to get everything organized and put together! : )
Have you been working in your classrooms over the summer? How to you battle the heat?
Jennifer Tilton says
Your classroom is huge! I am so excited for you! We can not get into our classrooms during the summer. I think the last week of July is the first time we can get in. Lucky you!

Oh my goodness. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't work in my classroom over the summer.

It looks great! I understand about the heat, though. 🙁 I noticed you have the Journeys curriculum tubs. That's what our district uses, too. Have setting up your room!
Oh, and I emailed the winner of your giveaway and she never contacted me. Did she reply to you? Just curious…

I really need to look through all of the Journeys curriculum stuff. It's all so overwhelming to me! Good thing it's only June. And, yes she replied back to me, hmmmmmm…

That's so so exciting! The heat must be miserable though. Can't wait to see your room as you make it your own. 🙂

Wahoo for your keys….and your room is HUGE!
I know you are excited! We have no air but I am just thankful I can go up to my room. There are lots of people who cannot go until the week before school starts and they take their keys!!!!! HORROR!

You are right! That would be TERRIBLE. I am very grateful to have full access to my classroom all summer!

Hey, I am a new teacher, I will be teaching A kindergarten class (5 year olds) from August.
I am terrified!
If you have any advice for first year teachers, how to organise your room, how to keep your paperwork, portfolios etc, organised and how not to have a breakdown…that would be amazing!
Thanks Laura

How exciting!! And your classroom looks so big! I have no tips for battling the summer heat in a classroom because we are extremely lucky to have air in ours all summer long. Good luck and congratulations!!

Oh my goodness! I am so jealous. Ours won't be on until the week before school starts. I just try to think about all the calories I am sweating away haha : )

I think you and I are in the same boat about the air conditioning! I'm in TX as well and the principal said they only turn the air on, on Monday and Thursday mornings. So I have a short time frame to work with.
Good luck!
Judy
Sarah says
That does really limit you! I'm glad that you at least get a little air!
AmberO says
Yay for the new room!! Isn't it fun:) I am currently going thru books as well, and I (illegally) adjust my air so I can deal with the heat quite nicely. However, I didn't know that last year (my first year) so I did go only at night! MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE SECRETARY:) Maybe she can tell you how to "work the system" (not that I do that….)
Sarah says
Haha good for you! I wish I could do that! It's off in all schools throughout the district though. It is so fun having my own room! And overwhelming. I don't know where to begin haha.
Erica says
I have given you an award! Come on over and pick it up!

Congratulations on your new adventure and your new room. This is my 20th year and I'm still in my room during the summer. I can't understand the districts that ban their teachers, I thought dedication was a good thing (but don't ask my hubby)! Good luck and always treat the secretaries and the maintenance staff like royalty…they're the ones who really have the keys to the school.
At least take a fan and lots of ice water.

Congrats on your new room! How exciting! 🙂 My new school turns the a/c off in July, too, to save money, so it's not very much fun to go in to work right now. lol. Maybe this is a sign that we should take this time off from school. 😉
